Dialectual Behavioral Therapy
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a model of treatment based on cognitive behavioral therapy. Dialectics refers to the treatment approach or strategies used by the therapist to effect change. Dialectics directs our attention to the immediate and larger context of behavior, as well as to the interrelatedness of individual behavior patterns.
There are four specific skills training modules:
- Mindfulness Skills
- Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills
- Emotion Regulation Skills
- Distress Tolerance Skills
The central Aim of DBT is to replace ineffective Maladaptive, or non skilled behavior with skillful responses. This is taught in group skills training. Please call for an appt with Shirley for individual therapy and or group therapy if you feel DBT would be helpful to you or a loved one.
