Laurie Sansom

Laurie is a psychotherapist who received her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Bethel University in 2009.  She is currently working state licensing requirements to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.  She has been married for over 30 years and has three adult children and one teenager.  She has spent the last 21 years homeschooling her children and is excited about her new career in the counseling field.

Over the last several years, she has been a volunteer counselor with a church-based counseling clinic.  She has worked predominantly with young and older adult women and has experience working with clients who have depression, anxiety, phobias, disordered eating, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and faith-related needs.  Her main areas of interest are in working on health and fitness goals, including clients who have had bariatric surgery or have disordered eating, helping people with boundary issues, and working with people who are experiencing grief and loss.  She prefers working with individuals and would like to expand her clientele to include senior citizens, children, and adolescents.  Her primary theoretical approach is cognitive behavioral therapy, and she is open to include other styles and techniques as needed.  Laurie highly values being able to integrate faith into the counseling process, to the extent that a client is interested and comfortable.

Laurie is trained in EMDR (please click on the "Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing" sidebar for more information) and is pleased to offer this therapy to those who are in need, especially those who have experienced traumatic events.

She will be seeing clients on a no-charge basis, but donations of any amount are appreciated.  She will see clients for up to 10 sessions, with the possibility of additional sessions at her discretion.
